Tunisia, where to go part 2

Where else can we go in Tunisia...

Well top of the list for history buffs is the City of Carthage. Carthage, once Tunisia's capital, was founded by the Phoenicians, which later became the jewel of what was one of the most magnificent provinces of the Roman Empire.

Just put Carthage in to google, and you will see what i mean- history buff heaven.!

There are many museusm and old ruins to feast your eyes on. The National Bardo Museum houses the worlds largest collection of Roman Mosaics

visit Tunisia Tourism Board Website for more details of what you can see- http://www.cometotunisia.co.uk

another area with history, is the Ampitheatre of El Djem, a stones trow away from Sousse.

This ampitheatre was aparently built by the Romans in year 200,and has been declared a World Heritage Site, and have to say, it is huge! You can see the ampitheatre in the horrizon when travelling to this small city from Sousse.

and for those movie buffs, you will like to know that the films, Gladiator- with Russel Crow, and Troy, with Brad pitt were filmed here

AS mentioned, Sousse is a stones throw away from the ampitheater, and if you arent already planning to stay in this area, then it is well work a good look about.

The Medina of sousse, is alive with fixed and non fixed price shops, stalls and the like, and is very busy with people buying souveniers as well as locals buying what they need. The fixed price shops are perfect for those who dont like the 'hassel' of haggling for a price, but you will find them busier than the non fixed price stalls... however, haggling is much more fun, and the locals encourage it with our famous catch phrases, 'cheap at half the price' and Thats the Asda price... really it is quite funny listening to them come out with these phrases- but its not because they have an Asda or have a TV to watch the adverts, someone from somewhere in the UK has suggested that we ALL like shopping in ASDA!.. :-)

The area of Sousse is popular with holiday makers, as it caters for all and all pockets. you have the shops and reasturants a walk away from the resorts- which are along the cost line... you can either chill by the beach or the pool side, or get stuck in to the hustel and bustle. Not to mention the Night life is pretty good for young or old.

Sousse has its own history attached, with the city originally built in a fortress- aparently to keep the Christians of Scilly out! it is quite stunning to see the ramparts all still intact... not to forget a visit to the Dar Esssid Museum.
Life of Brian was filmed here.
