New Zealand Moutain Biking and Wine Tasting

New Zealand is famous for many things, including it's mountains and it's wine. So if you're planning a visit down under it makes sense to enjoy them both.

But don't be put off by the image of the rugged mountains, this one
day tour of Hawke's Bay is suited to everyone with a passion for wine and the energy to get out of bed on sunny sunday morning.

This lazy one day tour of the Hawke's Bay area, takes you through an area which delivers some of New Zealands finest wines.

On the 28km guided route is guided by professional cyclists and deemed suitable for anyone of a moderate ability. It takes you through a region known for it's long hot summers and cool winters. Perfect for growing perfect grapes.

In the morning, as the sun fills the valleys you'll have your first opportunity to sample the Alywn Chardonnary at about 10am in the morning. (A great way to start the day and add energy to your cycle legs!).

The cycle route is known as the Ngatarawa triangle route and takes in the Ngatarawa vinyard itself, known for the buttery oaks of it's Alwyn Chardonnay.

It's then on to Trinity Hill where you'll encounter it's pancake-flat vineyards. Then off to the Te Awa vineyards known for their bubbling subteranean streams which give their Bordeaux their unique characteristics.

Your lunch will be at the last winery and will be assembled from produce of Hawke's Bay.

The afternoon is equally as relaxing and diverse and you head through farmland, olive groves, fruit orchards and horse studs.

You'll reach Hawke's Hill in the late afternoon where you can take the 15 minute hike through the sheep grazed farmland to the top, where you can take in the stunning views across Hawke's Bay and Ngatarawa.

Take a look at the vineyards you'll be visiting:

Cost: NZD $50 which equates to about £19
