Soldeu - Top for Skiing This Season?

Soldeu: If you are looking for a fantastic all-round resort you can't do better than Soldeu in Andorroa.

Why is it Soldeu so good?

* High resort 1710-2640m meaning great snow conditions
* New and modern resort
* Low cost in comparison to France / Italy
* Skiing and snowboarding for all abilities
* Superb ski schools with native english speaking instructors
* Great apres ski
* Amazing sunshine record

Last time I skied in Soldeu I stayed in the Euro Esqui Hotel which is half way between Soldeu and El Tarter. To far to walk but the  local ski bus stops outside the hotel  each morning and takes you to the buddle lift in Soldeu. It's no more than a 2-5 minute journey on the bus.

Take the bubble lift up to the slopes and you'll open up into a wide area of nursery slopes, cafes and ski school meeting points. It's all very modern and well organised.

From here you can ski back down the mountain or work your way across to  over lifts to go up further. You will need to ski back down to find lifts to take you up, or use the rope lifts to take you across the mountain. It's not a problem and very use friendly. The nursery slopes are very well organised and there are different ones for different abilities.

In terms of runs, there aren't as many as some of the larger french resorts, but for someone who's only been 4-5 times there was plenty. I went with people who were expert 'black run' skiers and they still found plenty to keep them entertained and even a few to challenge them.

We went during March. The slopes didn't seem overly busy and we didn't have to queue for lifts. The ski schools got busy as most people seemed to take lessons.

Snow was fantatsic and it snowed most nights. I even felt I could have skied in a t-shirt it was so warm during the day. I confess I wasn't brave enough to try!

One of the best runs was the one back down to the bottom of bubble lift. It's also the location for one of the best hotels in the resort. Called the Sport Hotel or the Sport Village. These, although more expensive and very very nice hotels and in the perfect location.

We chose to ski down the slope every lunchtime and each back in the resort. There is a fantastic bar by the start of  bubble lift. Food  was much cheaper than on the slopes. I also confess the food portions were so big we ended up ordering kids portions each day.

Evenings out in Soldeu are among the best of any resort I've been  to. Lots  of english bars and entertainment. Not too loud, just the right balance. There isn't a lot of 'traditional' Andorran food or culture to see. In fact I couldn't even tell you what it is as the resort is definitely very focused on the English.

Overall Soldeu is one of the best value ski resorts I've ever had the pleasure of skiing. Not only is the price good, it also had a great range of skiing available.
