Most visited countries in 2010

View the top 10 most visited countries by UK residents in 2010. There are no surprises for which country tops the list, but you may be surprised by a few of the others.

In 2010, 55.6 million people traveled overseas compared to 58.6 million in 2009, mainly due to strikes and air travel being affected by the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud crisis.

Despite the dip in numbers, Spain was still the most-visited overseas holiday destination by UK residents last year.

UK residents increased visits to countries such as Turkey and Tunisia last year but cut back on trips to many euro-zone countries. Visits to Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus all fell by more than 10%.
